Retail premises across Ashfield and Mansfield can apply for a discount of up to £1,000 a year on their business rates for the next two years.

Both Ashfield and Mansfield District Council have introduced the Government’s Discretionary Retail Rate Relief policy.  Central Government is giving funding to local authorities so that they can provide a rates discount worth up to £1,000 a year in both 2014-15 and 2015-16 to retail premises with a rateable value of up to £50,000.

Both Councils will award up to £1,000 of discretionary rates relief to occupied retail premises on the condition that:

  • The property has a rateable value of £50,000 or less, and
  • It is occupied and is wholly or mainly being used as a shop, restaurant, café or drinking establishment or is an establishment which provides services to the public.

Financial, medical and professional services are not eligible.

Application forms have already been sent to more than 400 businesses that could qualify for the discount.  Applications can also be made directly to the appropriate Council.  For more detail, refer to the retail rate relief guidance notes.

If your business is in Ashfield, further information or an application form can be obtained from Business Rates on 01623  457516.

If your business is in Mansfield, further information or an application form can be obtained from Revenues and Benefits on 01623 463162.
