Demolition of General Hospital captured on film

Demolition shot of General Hospital

A short film showing the demolition of the Mansfield General Hospital from start to finish is now available to view online.

The footage for the demolition video has been compiled from a time-lapse camera system, set up to track the dismantling of the building over a six month period.  The high definition system, installed by the company Hideaway Media, took round-the-clock photos of the General Hospital site every fifteen minutes during its demolition. The archived images were then edited to show the various stages of demolition.

Demolition contractors, CMEC, moved onto the 1.3 hectare site in November 2013 to remove buildings, which had been derelict for twenty years and which, in some cases, dated back to the late eighteen hundreds.

Portfolio Holder for Economic Regeneration, Cllr Kate Allsop said: “This fascinating footage documents the demolition of a historic Mansfield building and the clearance of a huge site. The film is only two minutes long but is definitely worth a view.”
