Business in Combat: Eradicating modern slavery from corporate supply chains

21 July, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Business, charity and police leaders from the East Midlands are invited to this seminar.  In brief, it will explore practical measures to identify, and eradicate modern slavery from corporate supply chains. Moreover, it has been organised by the University’s International Policing and Justice Institute, in association with East Midlands’ constabularies.

Police involvement

The event is fully supported by Derbyshire Constabulary who are pivotal in helping eradicate modern slavery across the East Midlands.  In addition, the Police are working closely with businesses, charities, the clergy and academics.  Assistant Chief Constable, Chris Haward, has lead responsibility for combatting modern slavery across the five forces in the East Midlands.  He is therefore passionate about bringing about an end to this blight on our society, as follows:

As a police service we want to work with you to help identify and care for the victims.  At the same time, we want to support you to tackle modern slavery.  Furthermore, we want to ensure your brand is seen as a beacon of good practice.  In addition, we want to bring to justice those who abuse others in this way.  As a business, you can make a huge difference to people’s lives.  Your commitment in this regard would therefore be hugely appreciated.

What’s involved?

During the course of the workshop-style event, the aim is to develop and agree a practical action plan.  This can then be implemented by law enforcement agencies and businesses alike, helping to identify and eradicate modern slavery from corporate supply chains.

Further details and registration

The event will take place at Toyota Motor Manufacturing’s production facility at Burnaston, Derby.  Whilst this event is aimed at companies across the East Midlands, it is particularly relevant for those with a turnover of more than £36m.  This is because they are legally bound by the Modern Slavery Act 2015 to ensure that their supply chains are free from trafficked, or otherwise exploited, labour.

This is bound to be a popular event so don’t delay, register today.  Further details will be sent to delegates once they have booked their free place.
