Construction & Property Forum – EEM, regional sector update, pipeline analysis & ISPO benefits

This bi-monthly forum is for businesses involved in the construction and property sector and discusses best practice and industry developments.

  • Pete Smith, Chief Executive, EEM Limited – overview of their operations
  • Tom Wallbank, Associate Director and Mark Deakin, Director, Turner & Townsend – regional update of the Construction and Property Sector
  • Maria Willis – update on the D2N2 LEP Construction Sector Development Action Plan, including the proposed pipeline analysis
  • Supporting export in the construction sector, overview of the International Student Placement Office (ISPO)

This forum is kindly hosted by EEM Limited who is a member owned procurement consortium working on behalf of the public sector, EEM was formed in March 2010 to support efficiencies through aggregated and volume procurement initially to support housing providers realise efficiency savings when undertaking Decent Homes works via the Homes and Communities Agency.

Now with 55 member organisations covering an area from Liverpool to Lincoln and down to London, combined with supporting other Consortium in the East, South West, the EEM brand is recognised as best value across the UK. EEM supports both small and large contractors by allowing them to use the EEM supply chain enabling them to tender on a level playing field and not who buys best. A ‘pinch me moment’ is when you hear that EEM are supplying Buildbase with boilers, showers and kitchens due to the EEM superior buying power.

As a not for profit company, any operating surpluses are passed to the Communities in which EEM serves, in September 2015 EEM distributed £99,461 as community donations, for 2016, £144,000 has been allocated.

Tom Wallbank, Associate Director and Mark Deakin, Director,Turner & Townsend will present on the landscape of the construction sector in the region. Turner & Townsend is an independent professional services company specialising in programme management, project management, cost management and consulting across the property, infrastructure and natural resources sectors.

With 90 offices in 38 countries,Turner & Townsend draw on their extensive global and industry experience to manage risk while maximising value and performance during the construction and operation of clients’ assets.

Maria Willis, Construction Coach and Construction Ambassador, D2N2 LEP will provide delegates with an update on the activity from the Construction Sector Development Action Plan, this will include details of the proposed regional pipeline analysis which will aim to provide data on future construction and infrastructure projects planned in the area.

Finally Maria Martin-Albarran, ISPO International Recruitment Service Manager, East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire) will provide a short overview of their offer to the sector. ISPO is a cost effective means whereby a European student can work full time for 5-6 months in a business. Students are sourced through links with over 250 continental education establishments and from an extensive database of students.
