EMCC: Sustainability forum

This forum will explore the business benefits of supporting environmental activity to develop and improve your corporate social responsibility (CSR).  In addition, it will include case studies from businesses who have worked with local community organisations to develop a robust CSR strategy.  Furthermore, this forum will detail the range of business benefits from doing so.

The forum will take place at the Attenborough Nature Centre, an award-winning visitor and education facility surrounded by the tranquil waters of the beautiful Attenborough Nature Reserve.  Managed by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, the nature reserve has great vantage points and bird hides to watch wildlife from.  In addition the reserve benefits from unique habitats including areas of wetland and grassland as well as woodland.

The agenda

  • Welcome and overview of operations from the host Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust
  • Working in partnership with the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust – business case study provided by Castle Rock Brewery
  • Developing a CSR strategy, what are the business benefits – Hosta Consulting
  • “Energy for Business” – detail of the low carbon project developed to forge links between regional businesses and Universities – University of Nottingham

Further information

Firstly, we will hear from our host, Holly McCain, Senior Development Officer at Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust.  Holly will give an overview of their operations and detail how they work with business.  This will include detail from Lewis Townsend, Head of Marketing at Castle Rock Brewery.  Moreover, Lewis will discuss their history of working with the Trust on corporate responsibility and partnership working.

We will then hear from Helen Taylor, Director, Hosta Consulting will cover the following topics:

  • What is sustainability?
  • What does sustainability mean for SMEs and how can it create shared value?
  • The business case for sustainability.
  • The synergy between Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility.

Finally, we will hear from Tim Saunders, Business Development Officer for the Energy Innovation and Collaboration team at the University of Nottingham.  Tim will explain the support on offer to D2N2 SMEs through ‘Energy for Business’.  This low carbon project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to forge links between regional businesses and world-class academics, researchers and graduate talent in the energy field at the University of Nottingham.

Chamber members can attend for free, while non-members need to pay £30 + VAT.
