Enabling Innovation: Innovation driving productivity

The East Midlands Chamber of Commerce is working with Nottingham Trent University (NTU).  You are therefore invited to the first of a series of innovation events in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.  And, what’s more, it’s totally FREE to attend.

Why attend?

Basically, this event focuses on NTU’s Enabling Innovation offer to local small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

During the session, you will not only hear about the varied Enabling Innovation offer from  university specialists.  You will also hear from industry experts about driving productivity though your enterprise.  During this two year programme, the university will be offering support to businesses.

Agenda

  • Productivity – Tom Moore, Director, Grant Thornton LLP.  The Facts.  Productivity statistics by region and by Local Authority.  Also comparisons across the UK and internationally.
  • Apprenticeships – Bev Moxon of Skills Funding Agency/National Apprenticeship Service.  An update on the forthcoming apprenticeship reforms
  • Skills/Talent – Emmie Studencki, Nottingham Trent University.  Outlining the NTU Enabling Innovation offer.
  • Astrid Brewster, International Trade Adviser, Department of International Trade.  How to internationalise your business: strategies, routes and DIT support.

The event will be followed by a chance to network until 11am and refreshments will be provided.

More information

Basically, through Enabling Innovation, Nottingham Trent University provides funded support to SMEs locally.  This programme aims to help more than 2,000 businesses boost their innovation, become more competitive, grow and create high-skill jobs.

In fact, the university can support innovation in a number of ways, including;

  • Networking and business development workshops and events
  • Dedicated sector-specific technical hubs in food and drink; materials engineering; computing and data; and design innovation
  • Innovation management workshops delivered by Nottingham Business School
  • A 20% contribution towards the cost of employing a graduate for up to a year, in order to support businesses to introduce innovative products, services or processes
  • A wide range of intensive specialist support for businesses looking to introduce new products and processes

Enabling Innovation is a three-year collaborative programme involving Nottingham Trent University, as well as the Universities of Derby and Nottingham.  The programme is part-funded by the Economic Regional Development Fund (ERDF).  As a result, this means that the support on offer to businesses is fully subsidised.
