Fall in Love with Mansfield Market

May 7, 2013 9:13 am

Mansfield District Council and Mansfield BID have organised two weeks of activities running alongside Mansfield’s traditional market as part of the Love Your Local Market campaign from 15-29 May.  As part of the campaign, the Council and Mansfield BID are providing a great offer for existing and new traders.

I love Mansfield

The national initiative, now in its second year, aims to recruit new market traders and demonstrate the importance of the market as a community asset.

Mansfield District Council’s nutrition officers will be showing visitors how to make Spanish Sausage Casserole with beans and Spring Chicken in a pot at cooking demonstrations in the Market Place on Thursday 23 and Wednesday 29 May from 10.30am – 12.30pm.  The Council’s Parks team will be providing horticultural advice at a gardening surgery in the Market Place on Wednesday 22 and Tuesday 28 May from 10am to 12 noon. They will be showing people how to use general household items such as egg boxes, plastic containers and sponges as alternatives to seed trays and pots. People are asked to bring their own containers so they can plant seeds to take home.

Members of the Maun Conservation Group will also be there showing people how to make a bird nesting box from scrap wood. They will also be providing information on the Friends group and Local Nature Reserves.  There will be over 10 different stalls selling a variety of arts and crafts in the Market Place on Saturday 25 May.

As part of the campaign, the Council and Mansfield BID are providing a great offer for existing traders and new traders.  New traders can receive one week per month for free for every month they sign up for. This is for a maximum four month period. After the fourth month they would then be required to pay for each subsequent full month.  Existing traders can sign up for a half price stall for one week of the Love Your Local Market (LYLM) fortnight.

Councillor Kate Allsop, Portfolio Holder for Economic Regeneration, said: “Mansfield’s market is at the heart of the Town Centre and taking part in this national initiative provides us with the perfect opportunity to showcase the market to both potential new traders and customers. The offer for new traders means now is the perfect time for anyone who has been thinking of starting their own business to give it a go.”
