Idlewells Market shaping up nicely

November 29, 2017 4:58 pm

Excitement among traders and shoppers alike is building ahead of the completion of the major refurbishment of Idlewells Market.  In short, the indoor market, situated within the Idlewells Shopping Centre in Sutton, is undergoing a significant revamp.  This will not only reshape the market’s layout but it will also improve the shopping choice.

New stalls and fittings are already in place.  Moreover, a brand new atrium now floods light into the market’s central area.  This all results in a space which is almost unrecognisable from its previous condition.  Furthermore, new and existing traders are busy moving into their permanent positions.  So with Christmas approaching, it’s the perfect time to visit the market and stock up for the festive season.

Fantastic fresh environment

Two existing traders who have moved into their new positions are Richard & Emma’s Books and Tony’s Café.  Richard and Emma Heath, who pride themselves on customer service, stock a wide range of fairly priced books and puzzles.  They are naturally excited about the market’s future.

Richard explained: “We feel the market is much more spacious now.  The new atrium makes the hall lighter and brighter and gives a nice ambience for both traders and shoppers.”

Following over 30 years of trading, Tony Day of Tony’s Café also commended the project. He said: “We welcome the Council’s investment in the market and are really excited about its completion.  It’s really positive for Sutton.  We completely refitted the café when it re-opened in September with a new colour scheme and new tables and chairs.  The café is looking great and our customers love it.”

Councillor Don Davis is Deputy Leader of Ashfield District Council.  Don commented: “It’s fantastic to see the vision starting to become a reality.  This fresh redevelopment will improve retail options.  So now is a great time to come down and see how it’s shaping up.  And to visit our fantastic traders in their new environment.”

New opportunities

With all this in mind, you may be considering becoming a trader yourself and moving in.  Here’s the really good news: we have grants to help you.  Our markets scheme in Ashfield offers grants of up to £1,500.  This grant provides support to new start-up market traders moving into the Idlewells Indoor Market.  Even if the indoor market isn’t for you, the grant also provides up to £500 for new start-up traders on the outdoor markets.  In addition, this grant covers the outdoor markets in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield and Hucknall.  Find out more.  To discuss further or to request an application form, please contact us on 01623 463813.
