Last chance to book for the SME China Forum in Nottingham

September 18, 2015 10:15 am

More than 200 delegates will attend the third SME China Forum in Nottingham to receive practical market-entry advice from a cross-section of UK SMEs with China experience.

Designed to support UK SMEs engaging with China, the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) has grown and developed the Forum for the past three years, hosting the event in Manchester in 2013 and last year in Birmingham.

Despite some recent negative media reports on China’s economic outlook, CBBC continues to recognise the huge opportunity for UK companies to grow exports to the Chinese market in the coming years.

At the forum, a number of local SMEs will present case studies on how to enter the market and then grow a business successfully in China.

Delegates will also get the opportunity to meet with China market experts, attend break-out workshops and network with a large delegation of Chinese companies, spanning the automotive, advanced engineering, ICT, logistics, and retail/food and drink sectors.

Graham Cartledge CBE, Chairman of Benoy and Vice-Chairman of CBBC, will host the event, giving his insights on ‘The China Opportunity’.

He said: “Benoy has been in the Chinese market for almost two decades and in this time the practice has grown through the new opportunities and diverse design environment available in the country.

“Working from our studios in Beijing and Shanghai as well as Hong Kong we are able to bring the best of British design to China, thus further developing our Benoy brand and facilitating additional expansion.”

British exports to China reached £13.9bn in 2014, making China the UK’s fourth largest export market.

The UK’s service industry is renowned in China. British brands, both niche and well known, are increasingly prized among new middle-class consumers – as evidenced by the success of The Great British Brands Festival held in eight cities across the country.

Stephen Phillips, CBBC Chief Executive said, “80% of the work we do is with SMEs, proving there is a huge Chinese appetite for the goods and services UK SMEs offer. The SME China Forum is the national event for UK SMEs looking to take the next step on their China journey.”

Ian Harrison, UKTI Regional Director for the East Midlands, said: “China continues to be a strong market for the East Midlands and was actually the sixth largest market for us in 2014, generating some £940m in revenues. I am delighted to say we are already on track to exceed this figure in 2015. We are very proud to be part of the third national CBBC SME China Forum in Nottingham and it is a real coup for the region to be hosting this prestigious event.”
