I love Mansfield

A new FREE cardboard collection scheme for town centre businesses is being rolled out and could collect up to 50 tonnes of waste a year.

The Mansfield Business Improvement District (BID) has teamed up with the multi-award-winning Untapped Resources, a social enterprise based on Botany Avenue.  The initiative will see weekly collections of cardboard, which will then be taken to be recycled.  Businesses who have already signed up to the free scheme include Pizza Hut, Beales department store, Vivid Shoes, Paper Kisses, Health Food Store, Who’s Toys, Cash Convertors, Casey’s Coffee Bar and Suite Designs.

BID manager Sarah Nelson said: “Businesses asked us to look at a scheme that would help them to recycle cardboard.  We are delighted that we can make it happen thanks to our partnership with Untapped Resources.”

The initiative will also mean that businesses can dispose of confidential waste paper at a much reduced rate.

Marie Gibson, from Untapped Resources, said: “There’s a real buzz in partnership working  and encouraging others to take up the scheme.  We can do site visits to help people separate waste at source and are happy to help educate more and more people about the benefits of recycling.  I estimate that we can probably collect up to 50 tonnes of waste cardboard every year and are delighted to be working with Sarah and her BID team on this.”

One of the businesses that has signed up to the scheme is Suite Designs, on St John’s Street, and its sister outlet XDirect Furniture on Church Street.

Sarah Keeling, manager of the Church Street shop, said: “This is a fantastic scheme for businesses in Mansfield town centre. We have a lot of cardboard to get rid of and it takes a lot of work to get it all to be recycled so we’re very pleased about this BID scheme.”

Any BID levy payers in Mansfield town centre who want to sign up for the scheme should call BID Manager, Sarah Nelson, on 01623 635675.
