Mansfield Manor Hotel Family Business of the Year

Mansfield Manor Hotel has won the national title of Family Business of the Year.

More than 300 family business guests descended upon Shakespeare’s Globe, in London, for the sixth annual Red Ribbon Awards – celebrating the achievements of Britain’s finest family-run businesses.

After months of searching, interviewing and filming, 11 family firms were crowned winners in a number of categories.

Mansfield Manor Hotel, on the edge of Carr Bank Park, in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, was crowned winner of the Telegraph Family Business of the Year award.

Co-owner Diane Doran said: “It was a shock when we were announced as the winner. There are so many fantastic businesses out there and we didn’t think it would be us up there on the stage collecting the award.

“We’d like to thank the business community of Mansfield, our outstanding team and those who have supported us and helped us get to the stage where Mansfield Manor Hotel is a thriving business and popular and unique wedding venue.”

Diane and Paul Andrews took over the hotel in 2012, when it needed a lot of care and attention.

The couple then set about investing hundreds of thousands of pounds in transforming the Grade II-listed former Georgian manor house.

The judges said: “As far as making an impact goes, this family firm have reached wide and far.

“Not only has the business become a beacon of success in the town and in the community, encouraging a wave of more affluent people and transforming what was once a crime-fuelled area.

“They have also invested their time, money and energy into training and developing the next generation through apprenticeships – young people who might otherwise have not been given a chance.”

Hosted by Family Business Place, the awards seek to recognise and honour some of the most exciting, innovative and longstanding family businesses around the UK.

Amalia Brightley-Gillott, Director of Family Business Place said: “Family businesses are the lifeblood of the British economy and the beating heart of our local communities, employing one in three people.

“Despite their impressive contribution they are often modest and shy about publicising their achievements and so we founded the Red Ribbon Awards. This year’s winners are a treasure trove of incredible companies who all excel in their field and are true beacons of British commerce.”
