Working with schools and young people

Many businesses really want to work with schools and young people but simply don’t know how to go about it.  That’s exactly where we come in.  We currently fund a programme around improving employability skills across most local secondary schools.  Not only that, but we also know about other organisations’ activities, which could help your business.

Enterprising Schools

Funded by Ashfield and Mansfield District Councils.  These day-long workshops with young people (years 9-11) work on enterprise and employability skills.  Businesses can take part for a day at a time.  Not only that, but they can cover as many (or as few) schools and subjects as they like.  Our project aims to improve young people’s knowledge and awareness of business generally.  In addition we want to help them better understand an employer’s expectations when searching for the right people.  Moreover, this programme helps to raise skills and improve aspirations.  This programme is delivered by Ideas4Careers Ltd.  Contact us to find out more.  Alternatively, contact Sue Smith direct at Ideas for Careers on 07427 620226.

All Saints

All Saints are looking for employers to help with their interview experience day on 23 March.   To find out more and get involved, contact Lesley Buet on 07815 067845.

Evolve Trust

The Evolve Trust offers regular networking events to engage with local businesses.  They are running their next after-hours networking event on Monday 13 March.  To register an interest in attending a future event, contact Berni Dickinson on 01623 676372.

A little further afield

We understand that businesses do not work to the same administrative boundaries that we do.  Depending on exactly where you are and what other connections you enjoy, you may well have wider interests.  With this in mind, you may be interested in the following opportunities:

  • French student placement over the summer.  Looking for a host company for a couple of weeks over the summer.  The student is looking for experience of using English in a business, commercial or manufacturing environment.  If you would like to find out more, please contact Ian Grimshaw at Kip McGrath Education Centre on 01623 811595.
  • Gedling Borough Council.  Gedling also fund a schools engagement programme and are currently looking for businesses who want to take part.  They are particularly interested in hearing from those who would like to work with Joseph Whitaker in Rainworth.  This programme is also delivered by Ideas4Careers Ltd.  To find out more, please contact Julie Beresford on 0115 901 3736.
