£3m funding reminder for rural businesses

April 24, 2017 10:15 am

The rural economy in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire is benefiting from a £3m funding boost thanks to the D2N2 LEP.  Since the news was first published back in February, interest in the different funding streams has been strong.  However, there is still plenty of funding available for local rural businesses.

What’s on offer?

In summary, money is now available for three distinct areas:

  • Food processing – £501K
  • Business development – £1.6m
  • Rural tourism infrastructure – £928K

Furthermore, it’s important to remember that these grants will only cover a percentage of each project’s costs.  So your business will also need to invest its own funds.

Rural Means Business Conference

Back in February, the D2N2 LEP held a free conference to give potential applicants more information on the funding.

Peter Richardson is Chair of the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.  Peter said: “Basically, around a third of jobs in the D2N2 LEP’s area are in rural areas.  However, employers there tend to have less access to the benefits of infrastructure and business development opportunities in urban areas.

“Targeted funding via D2N2, such as these EAFRD grants now available, help level the playing field.  As a result, growing jobs and businesses which people living in rural areas rely on.”

More information

In 2013, Government asked England’s Local Enterprise Partnerships to draw up a six-year strategy for how they would spend a European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) allocation. D2N2’s innovative strategy saw it awarded one of the largest allocations of any LEP, receiving € 250million for projects, to be spent in its area up to 2020. The three main EU funds within the ESIF are the European Regional Development Fund, European Social Fund and EAFRD.
