The rollout of the Better Broadband for Nottinghamshire (BBfN) programme has recently commenced in Mansfield.

To date, at least 10 cabinets in the Mansfield exchange area have been upgraded, which will provide access to a high speed fibre network for 870 premises. Anyone connected to these cabinets that is interested in upgrading to a fibre connection should contact their chosen Internet Service Provider (ISP) to negotiate a new contract.

BBFN is a £19.8m partnership between Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) and a range of funding partners including BT, Central Government,  the European Regional Development Fund and Nottinghamshire’s District Councils, which is set to transform broadband speeds across the County. As a result of the programme, 95% of Nottinghamshire’s premises are expected to be able to access a fibre network, capable of delivering superfast broadband, by March 2016. This large-scale civil engineering programme builds on the commercial rollout of fibre-based broadband within Nottinghamshire (delivered by BT and other telecommunications providers), which will extend access to 86% of premises within the County by the end of 2014.

NCC has published a ‘Postcode Checker’ tool, which allows people to search by postcode to find out if they are included in the programme and the indicative timescales for when work will commence, along with series of maps showing the expected rollout of the BBfN programme, both of which can be accessed via the Nottinghamshire County Council website.

The maps are broken down into the seven programme phases and show how the programme is scheduled to progress until completion in 2016. These maps are based information as at June 2014 and may be subject to change.

NCC also sends out an update every month to subscribers of their emailme service – so if you want to be kept informed, sign up now!
