Business is ballooning thanks to council help

A balloon printing business is expanding to take on new staff and buy new machinery thanks to Mansfield District Council helping with new commercial premises.

The Balloon Printing Company

The Balloon Printing Company, run by Colin Holmes, began operating several years ago from home and 18 months ago moved to a single start-up industrial unit on Bleak Hill Way on the popular Hermitage Lane Industrial Estate. The company supplies custom-printed balloons for all events and occasions including trade shows, new products and services, new store openings, general advertising, and also personal occasions. They have also developed a unique process that enables photographs to be converted into a one colour print for a balloon.

On moving to the unit last year, Colin took advantage of the Council’s cash incentive scheme, which offers £1,000 cash back to businesses taking on new leases at any of the Council’s vacant retail, office and industrial properties.  The business is about to employ its sixth member of staff and bigger premises are needed for new machinery, which will enable it to keep up with big contracts by printing 3,000 balloons an hour. Colin has agreed a lease for an additional two units at the site and will receive £1,000 cash back together with a rent-free period as well as flexible lease terms.

Colin Holmes said: “The incentives provided by the Council are great because it means I’ve been able to expand in to new premises with financial help for items such as fixtures and fittings. The Council officers really went out of their way to help me find suitable properties and the support I’ve received from the Council has been really good in finding a property, and made the whole process of expanding in to new property easy.”

Cllr Kate Allsop, Portfolio Holder for Economic Regeneration, said: “This is a good example of how the Council works extremely hard to support existing tenants and growing businesses and will work with the business owners to provide property solutions wherever possible. I am thrilled to see this business thriving with the support of the Council and I would urge any new businesses to get in touch with us to see what help we can offer.”

The Property Cash Back of £1,000 and flexible lease terms are available on most of the Council’s available retail, office and industrial properties.
