Career Champions Pride as Award Finalists Revealed

August 5, 2015 12:17 pm

Career Champions are proud to once again be recognised for their hard work by being a finalist for the Education and Business Partnership Award at the East Midlands Chamber Awards.

Made up of Berni Dickinson, Director of the Mansfield Area Partnership(MAP), Caroline Cox, Operations Manager from Mansfield 2020, and Katrina Atherton, Business Director of A-Star Media, the team set up Career Champions in the summer of 2013 to engage local schools and businesses.

The Education and Business Partnership Award celebrates the Career Champions collaborative work with schools and employers to develop a local Careers and Employability Framework ‘bridging the gap’ between young people and the world of work.

Dubbed ‘Career Champions’ Partners are committed to young people, and have given a range of opportunities to youngsters to work with and meet local employers so they can make informed career decisions and develop employability skills to secure future jobs, further training and education.

On being named as finalists Katrina said, ‘We’re honoured and excited to be recognised at such a high level for the work we are doing. Mansfield is a brilliant town with a wealth of young talent and we’re helping businesses to tap into that resource, it’s really rewarding!’

To date hundreds of young people and many local businesses have engaged with the MAP, helping to raise aspirations and bridge the gap between young people and employers. Career Champions will find out if they have been successful at the East Midlands Chamber Awards in September.

All three members of the Career Champions team detailed above are part of the AMbassador’s scheme for Ashfield and Mansfield, set up to help businesses promote the area and have their business profile raised. We are always keen to expand our membership; if you would like to find out more, get involved or make any suggestions, please contact us.

Currently available to businesses in the Ashfield and Mansfield area is the Apprenticeship Grant for Employers (AGE) offering businesses taking on a new apprentice up to £1,500 on top of the national grant.
