EMCC: HR Forum – Social media and employment law

7 December, 2017, 8:00 am - 9:30 am

Chamber Logo

This forum, run in partnership with BRM Solicitors, provides a regular platform for HR professionals.  Here, attendees can share experiences, knowledge and ideas and discuss mutual issues and problems.  Through this a hub is created, supporting best practice.

What’s included?

Kindly supported by the Digital Growth Programme, this event will focus on social media and employment law.  Furthermore, it will cover the importance of being cyber secure and conforming to the forthcoming   General Data Protection Regulation changes.  While the internet and social media are useful tools, ensuring your business is protected is equally important.  Above all, you need to ensure that your employees are not your weakest link.

The agenda

  • Amy Hallam and Glenn Jaques, BRM Solicitors – General employment law update review of 2017 and the Autumn statement and what’s new in 2018: GDPR, GIG economy, holiday pay.  In addition, social media and employment law, including the importance of being cyber secure (GDPR dangers).  Moreover, all this will be backed up by case studies, law and policies.
  • Phil Bramley, North Midlands Group Editor for Johnston Press, which includes the Derbyshire Times and Chad series in Nottinghamshire – The potential impacts of misusing/abusing social media.  And how once a tweet or Facebook or LinkedIn comment is in the public domain it can be used in the media.  Phil will also cover the use of Facebook images and the related rules that apply.
  • John Morley, Managing Director, i-Sourcer – How to use social media in a practical way in a business environment.  Or, to put it another way, the “do’s and don’ts” of how to develop a professional company social media profile.
  • Overview of the support available through the Digital Growth Programme – Jon Egley, Digital Growth Manager
