Enabling Innovation: Healthier Options Takeaway – Rushcliffe

Exploring ways that take-aways can offer healthier choices to their customers, whilst keeping great quality and taste. In collaboration with Nottinghamshire County Council, this event will be led by an NTU expert. Furthermore, it will explore ways in which businesses might reduce salt, fat, and sugar in their dishes.

What’s on offer?

Offering healthier choices to customers doesn’t have to mean compromising on flavour or pushing up costs. This workshop will focus on simple, easy to implement ideas that aim to meet HOT guidelines. And, at the same time, maintaining the great taste and quality that your customers have come to expect.

The workshop will comprise a series of short sessions covering:–

  • Fat reduction
  • Salt reduction
  • Sugar reduction
  • Portion control

What is HOT?

In short, HOT stands for Healthier Options Takeaway. This merit scheme is run by Nottinghamshire County Council together with District and Borough Council partners. Basically, we’re aiming to increase the amount and variety of healthier options in takeaways across Nottinghamshire in order to help consumers to maintain a more balanced diet. Find out more.

Expert speaker

The main speaker for this event is Jan Newnham from NTU’s Food & Drink Innovation Hub. Before joining the Food & Drink Innovation Hub in August 2017, Jan spent many years working in Product Development for a number of food and drink manufacturers. Her career includes Adam’s Food Ingredients (now Ornua) and KP Snacks. She now works to support small businesses helping them to innovate and grow through the Enabling Innovation programme.

The event programme starts at 10am with registration. The main seminar runs from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Furthermore, we will be hosting this event in Committee Rooms 1 & 2 of Rushcliffe Arena.

This event is free to attend, but attendees must register in advance. In order to attend this event you must be eligible for support from the Enabling Innovation Programme, which supports SMEs in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

Enabling Innovation is a three-year collaboration between Nottingham Trent University, the University of Nottingham, and the University of Derby to support SMEs in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire to innovate. The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) part-funds Enabling Innovation.
