Enabling Innovation: Smart Nottingham – SME Discussion

28 November, 2018, 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Nottingham Trent Uni logo

Inviting SMEs to share smart innovations for the city.  This event brings together the City Council and NTU to discuss how small businesses can introduce innovation into a smarter Nottingham.

What’s on offer?

Nottingham Trent University’s Enabling Innovation programme and Nottingham City Council request your help in making Nottingham a Smart City.  We are bringing together a community of smart and talented people to share technology and ideas to allow Nottingham residents and businesses to live and work smarter.  And to make NTU a Smart Campus.  The City Council are actively working towards making Nottingham a city of the future and have published a strategy to guide this development.  This strategy splits into 4 main Smart areas:-

  • Energy – Generating clean energy to reduce fuel costs and to minimise environmental impact.
  • Transport – Improving air quality by reducing congestion, accelerating the switch to low carbon transport modes, and promoting active travel.
  • Homes – Building and retrofitting homes that are fit for the future while adopting innovative approaches that reduce ongoing maintenance costs.
  • Health & Wellbeing – Promoting independence and healthy lifestyles to reduce health inequalities.

Who is it for?

We present this opportunity for you to discuss the issues that both the City and the University face.  And the work already underway.  If you have ideas within any of the areas above or things you feel the city needs as part of the strategy, this is your chance to share them and make links for future collaboration.  Furthermore, if you have a service/system which is suitable for Smart Cities projects, come along to connect with potential users.  Moreover, you will be able to discuss technical aspects with academic staff and identify funding opportunities.

What’s included?

Introduction to Smart Nottingham/Smart Campus

The event will begin with a talk on existing projects from Nottingham City Council discussing their Future City Strategy.  Following this, guests will also hear about NTU’s plans for a Smart Clifton Campus and the opportunities this offers.

Funding/Further opportunities

Delegates will have the chance to discover a range of opportunities for funding from sources including Enabling Innovation, Innovate UK and the D2N2 Growth Hub.

A variety of guest and academic talks

Pitch your idea

All businesses attending will have the opportunity to present their ideas for a smarter Nottingham city and NTU campus.  These discussions will take place during the event in a round table of idea sharing and proposals from SMEs.  Businesses who are interested can send their ideas ahead of the event.
