Ingenuity: Performance – the art of Professional Presentation workshop

27 February, 9:15 am - 3:30 pm

Nottingham University Logo

A free two-day workshop for Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire SMEs.  There is a need, in a business context, to finesse your public voice and performance.  Not only in terms of public speaking (although that is part of it), but also in all business settings.  We all have to ‘perform’ to a variety of different audiences, whether customers, colleagues, employees, suppliers or collaborators.  In a world where our audiences make rapid judgements, professional presentation has never been more important.

Expert speaker

In this two-day workshop, Martin Berry (Associate Director for Theatre Projects at Nottingham Lakeside Arts) will use his extensive experience.  Martin will explore how to present with confidence, structure and create a meaningful connection with the listener.

Martin first delivered this workshop as a one-day event for the Ingenuity Network in February 2017.  As a result, he was praised by delegates for his “wealth of knowledge, experience and excellent presentation skills”. Participants remarked: “The whole workshop was highly informative and I have come away having learned a great deal”.  It was further commented: “A very useful event for every type of business.”

Based on delegate feedback, we have extended this workshop to a two-day event this year. Please be aware that you must be able to commit to attend both days.

Martin trained at Rose Bruford College in London and has a Masters Degree in Directing for Theatre, TV and Radio from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.  Credits as director/associate director include: PLAYING WITH FIRE (Royal Festival Hall), CINDERELLA (Queens Theatre London), A CHRISTMAS CAROL and DOCTOR FAUSTUS (Lakeside Arts Centre), THE LAST FIVE YEARS (Brewery Theatre and short tour), SAVAGE CHILDREN (UK Tour), THE LAST DAYS OF MANDKIND (Bristol Old Vic), LYSISTRATA (Lakeside), TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD (with Harriet Walter at Bath Literature Festival), JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOUR DREAMCOAT (West End and UK tour) and RICHARD THE THIRD (Italia Conti). He is a lecturer in Shakespeare, improvisation and performance at Leicester DeMontfort University and in voice and public speaking at The University of Nottingham.  He is also an experienced private tutor in audition technique, classical text and voice.

Further details and registration

Participants must be able to attend on both days: Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th February 2018, from 9.15am to 3.30pm on both days.  Furthermore, it will e held in the Presentation Suite, The Ingenuity Centre, Jubilee Campus, The University of Nottingham, NG7 2TU.

This event is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund 2014-2020 and is part of the Enabling Innovation Programme.  Due to the nature of this funding, priority will be given to Derbyshire and Nottingham SMEs.  This event is classed as State Aid to participating businesses, the value of which is £700, but is delivered completely free of charge to participants.

Since this event is free, it has proved very popular.  Unfortunately, as a result, this session is now fully booked so the form will no longer accept submissions.  Therefore, please email Gemma Morgan-Jones to be added to the waiting list.
