The Big House: Creatives’ Club #017 – Starting a freelance business from home

11 December, 2018, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Connect with and meet like-minded businesses and people at the Big House’s Creatives’ Club events. Find out more about digital marketing at our Christmas event with DebbieDooodah, Digital Marketing Guru.

Creatives’ Club

A series of events designed for creative and digital entrepreneurs. And businesses at all stages of their journey. A space to connect, network, forge relationships, hatch plans, collaborate, skill share, be curious, ask questions and discuss all things entrepreneurship, business and beyond. Sharing business, learning together and keeping it local.

Guest speakers

At each event we invite different local businesses to impart their wisdom, share their creative journey and inspire. This week, we’re excited to welcome DebbieDooodah, Digital Marketing Guru.

Starting a freelance business from home

Debbie went freelance at the worst possible time.  She’d just moved into a more expensive rented house, was a single mum and had no savings.  But she had a desire to do life differently, create something new and have a more flexible approach to work.

Hear about Debbie’s on-the-ground-running, lean startup approach to business, making it work by the skin of her teeth and getting all the bills paid.  You’ll hear about the city council stealing design ideas, starting up networks that suit her and manifesting diamond rings!

Plus a hot desk from Steve Hobbs from Asking Better Questions Ltd.

What’s on offer?

An expert speaker (see section above), networking and FREE food. What else could you ask for?

Creatives’ Club networking opportunity

After our speaker, there will be an opportunity to meet like-minded people in a friendly environment, enjoy a drink and a spread of nibbles. What’s more, all this will be against a backdrop of an awesome playlist.

Have real conversations, meet your future business partner or customer, and when the song finishes – change seats. Then try it all over again. This approach helps to both minimise awkward silences, and maximise productive interactions.

Whilst you’re here we’ll introduce you to all the free business courses, talks and workshops on offer to you. These are all hosted here in Nottingham as part of The Big House.

Further information and registration

While this event is free, space is limited. So don’t delay, book your place today. If you have any special access or dietary requirements, please email the Big House team. Equally, if you have any questions and/or would like any further information about this event, please contact the Events team on 0115 710 0107.

While this event is free to attend, you must first enrol with The Big House. This is because it is part of a European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) initiative. Please download and complete the form. And remember to bring it with you to the event, as it will be required when signing in. Furthermore, please note that we will be documenting the event. If you do not wish to be included in images or videos that may be used later for marketing purposes, please let us know beforehand.

PLEASE NOTE: The Big House events are free to you, because they are funded – however there is a cost attached to them for us and we are a not-for-profit organisation. So, if you have registered to come, your place will have been paid for. Our events are very popular and we often have a waiting list. With this in mind, if for any reason you are unable to attend it is very important that you cancel your ticket on Eventbrite as soon as possible, to enable someone else to take your place.
