First World War Centenary Memorial Project

March 27, 2018 11:50 am

Help us build a single, lasting tribute to all those people from the county and city who lost their lives fighting throughout the First World War.  You may have seen in the local press that partners from across Nottinghamshire are working on a project to create a single, lasting memorial to the 14,000 Nottinghamshire people who lost their lives in the First World War.  As you will be aware, we are approaching the 100th anniversary of the First World War and this is a fitting time to develop this tribute.

As you will be aware, there are many memorials across Nottinghamshire already in existence.  However, unfortunately there is no one overall place or memorial containing a definitive list in one place representing all the fallen from county and city.  The proposal is to build a new memorial at Victoria Embankment by the River Trent.

To drive the project forward, Eddie Curry from Nottingham City Council has taken on the Chair of the WW1 Roll of Honour Memorial Project Board.  And together with partnership organisation from across the County, they have started the process of Fund raising for the project. To date, £270,000 of funding has been securing, bringing this project closer to the target £320,000.

Local business support

With this in mind, local businesses are being sought to support this work.  While fundraising is progressing well, any support you can offer would be greatly appreciated.  Further funds would help increase the scope of the project.  And ensure we can create a truly lasting and befitting tribute to all those from the County who gave their lives during the 1st World War.

If you would like to talk about the project further or make any contribution towards it, please get in touch.  Perhaps we could come to talk with your team or just come and have a chat with you in person?  We can show you the exact location of the memorial and some ideas on how it may look.  We could also talk to you about the fundraising plans in place.  Alternatively, if you would like to make a direct donation, please visit the project’s online giving page.

Further information

More information about the project can also be found on the project’s dedicated webpage.  If you could help in any way with this project, all contributions would be gratefully received.  If you would like to meet, please either contact us or contact Eddie Curry at Nottingham City Council.  Eddie is Project Lead and Head of Parks, Open Spaces and Investment Funding.
