There was one clear theme for yesterday’s Mansfield 2020 Meeting – Partnerships Build Growth!  Untapped Resources sponsored the Mansfield 2020 December meeting and delivering a really informative presentation. Teresa Jackson started her presentation by saying: “Partnerships need to be formed to make Ashfield & Mansfield a better place.”

Untapped Resources help the long term unemployed get back into work and overcome barriers by providing training, support and social interaction. They recycle resources, not waste, and stop items going to landfill. They are a not-for-profit Community Interest Company, established 5 years ago. They are in the final year of support from the National Lottery and working hard to become sustainable.

Currently support over 40 local businesses to achieve a zero waste policy, as part of their CSR commitment, Untapped Resource have set up a partnership with Mansfield BID which has helped save town centre retailers not only money but also time and resources.  Teresa demonstrated that all private sector organisations can benefit, save money and give back to this local community in more ways than recycling.  She also applauded the new AMbassadors’ programme which had been launched earlier in the week and welcomed this new, positive way of working.

Next Berni Dickinson, Director of Mansfield Learning Partnership (MLP), provided the group with an update on key activities and also spoke warmly of partnership.  Since the formation of the award-winning ‘Career Champion team’ in June 2014 it has help shape the employer engagement activity which includes sponsoring a student, providing masterclasses/top tips and much more – to suit everyone’s time and budget.  MLP have supported 670 young people and 52 students have attended a breakfast meeting in this term alone.

Matthew Hancock’s ‘Inspiration vision’ sets the tone for the government’s position on careers guidance – many things that the MLP and the Careers Champion network are already currently delivering.  Berni enthusiastically encouraged the group to: ‘join in – and be part of the solution!’  The Career Champions team has already received local recognition, profile coverage and a business award for ‘Team of the Year’ and is looking to improve this profile on the national stage.

Mansfield 2020’s own award-winning Chairman, Irvin Robinson, then introduced the guest speaker: Tony Delahunty: Director at Mansfield 103.2 radio.  Dressed as Santa’s little helper, Tony provided an entertaining and inspirational talk about how he got to where he is today. He included tales about his interview with Brian Clough and hilarious references to the challenges he faced when setting up Mansfield 103.2 radio.

The meeting culminated in a Christmas raffle.  Mansfield 2020 would like to say a massive thank you to students from Brunts School band for entertaining the group with beautiful Christmas music and would also like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and brilliant New Year!  The group will next meet on Thursday 30 January 2014.
