After rigorous judging in June, Carr Bank Park, Titchfield Park, Peafield Park and Yeoman Hill Park have been given the national award, which recognises the best parks and green spaces in the country, a real sign of an excellent, well managed and customer friendly park.  Carr Bank, Titchfield and Peafield Parks are all previous recipients of the award but this is the first time Yeoman Hill Park has been awarded Green Flag status.

Yeoman Hill Park is situated in the heart of Mansfield Woodhouse. During the past 12 months the park has undergone a huge transformation, as part of a £30,000 project. Improvement work included new ornamental borders, raised planters, enhancements to the existing car park, interpretation panels, bowling green fencing and path works, installation of new litter bins, new benches and a meandering stepping stone path through one of the borders to the Church Hill side of the park. Additional play equipment has also been added to the already well stocked play area including a new zip slide.

Titchfield Park is a town centre park, with facilities for all age groups including ornamental gardens, Children’s play area, multi-use games area, pavilion, performance area, Pétanque piste and outdoor gym equipment. There has been much community involvement in the development of the park. The Maun Conservation group helps to care for the park and carry out a variety of practical tasks, events and school visits. Two local schools are active in using the park as an outdoor classroom to learn about horticulture, nature and conservation.

Carr Bank Park lies a short walk from the town centre in Mansfield. The historic park has a mix of open grassed areas with mature trees, woodlands, gardens and rockeries with ornamental features from earlier periods including a Victorian Grotto and Glasshouse. In 2012 a new £183,000 Edwardian style bandstand was built within the park. In 2011 the park had a new war memorial erected, funded through Help for Heroes. This is situated to the bottom end of the park and within the old performance area at the pedestrian entrance of Bath Lane.  The park is also host to three annual family fun days, these are the Easter egg hunt, halloween party and santa’s grotto all run by the Friends of Carr Bank Park group.

Pavilions are available for businesses to hire in both Titchfield and Carr Bank parks, for further details on each venue, including pictures and booking information, visit our conference rooms page.

Peafield Park is located on the Peafield Estate providing a great resource for local residents and visitors from further afield. It offers a range of facilities for all ages to enjoy including a play area, multi sports pitch, skate park, bike track, wildflower meadow areas, trails and walks, Whinney Hill Woodland and a sensory garden.

Cllr Philip Shields, Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “I am delighted to have another of the District’s parks attain this prestigious award and for the three existing green flag parks to have retained their status.  It is a huge compliment to our Parks staff and to all the Friends groups who work together in their quest to make our parks and open spaces something our District can be proud of.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all of their hard work and commitment they continue to show.”

Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd said: “We are thrilled to announce yet another record-breaking year for Green Flag Award parks and green spaces.  A Green Flag Award provides national recognition for the hard work and dedication of all the parks managers, staff and volunteers who have helped to create these fantastic places for all to enjoy.  Quality green spaces are absolutely essential to happy, healthy communities. They are fundamental to our quality of life, whether in cities, towns or villages. That’s is why it is so significant that we have given out more awards than ever before.”
