The founder and managing director of Mansfield based Hall-Fast Industrial Supplies, has been recognised for his services to business in the New Year’s honours.

Malcolm, 41, started Hall-Fast in 2006 in his back bedroom and it now has over 15,000 customers, 475 suppliers and over 200,000 products within its standard ranges; the company has won 25 major business awards and has plans to turnover £4 million within the next few years.

He said he did not know who had put him forward for the honour but he wanted to thank them – and he had found it hard to keep it a secret for six weeks

‘’I am immensely proud and humbled to receive this honour, it is not something that I could ever imagine receiving as a young boy growing up; it’s an honour that I believe comes with responsibility and hopefully it can be used to inspire youngsters to be the best that they can be’’

Malcolm Hall is a Governor of Vision West Nottinghamshire College and Vision Studio School and is also a figurehead AMbassador for entrepreneurialism for the Mansfield and Ashfield area.

Hall-Fast has customers in 95 countries, its online strategy for success is not the conventional route to exporting, however due to its success it has received extensive coverage in the Guardian and Times newspapers; UKTI and the DNLCC also use Hall-Fast as an example to help promote exporting to other businesses.

In June 2013, the UK government published its Strategy for the Information Economy sector. This strategy forms part of the Government’s work on wider Industrial Strategy, and Hall-Fast were used as an example of how a business can grow using the power of the web.
