Expressions of interest – Community/Business site options (Former Huthwaite Leisure Centre)

In order to address Ashfield District Council’s Corporate plan priorities, an extensive Leisure Facilities Review has been undertaken.  The evidence and consultation findings had a clear approach, including maximising and rationalising the use of council assets, including Huthwaite Leisure Centre.

Huthwaite Leisure Centre is in Huthwaite, near Sutton-in-Ashfield, and is in Council ownership.  The facility was originally a school.  More recently, the council converted it into a leisure centre with a gym, one court hall, bar, kitchen, snooker room, associated changing facilities and office space.  Furthermore, there is off-street parking.

The opportunity

Cabinet approved a report to terminate the contract with the leisure operator and to seek alternative options for the site with no subsidy from the council.  We therefore invite community groups or other interested parties to submit a sustainable business plan to operate the site.  The council is open to all proposals for the future of the site, although it is emphasised that these should be at no cost to the council.

Under the Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987 (as amended) and The Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 2015, the use class of the above premises fall within D2 – Assembly and Leisure.  Moreover, any changes to this use may require planning consent

The intention is to go to the open market for a period of 4 weeks.  After which, the council will evaluate any business plans submitted to see if there are any suitable options for the future of the site.

The council is open to all proposals for the future of the site.  However,  all proposals should be at no cost to the council.  Furthermore, there is no guarantee that any proposals will be followed through into practice.  Moreover, the council is committing up to a one-off contribution of £3,000 to assist the successful group with set-up costs.

If you need further information in order to aid your submission please contact Joy Elmer, Leisure Performance Officer.

Submission dates

The council will accept expressions of interest, including a business plan, from Friday 8th June 2018 to Friday 6th July inclusive.  Interested parties should return their submissions to Theresa Hodgkinson.
