Industrial strategy consultation

March 10, 2017 2:51 pm

The Government is currently consulting on its Industrial Strategy.   This is in order to inform and develop a strategy addressing long-term challenges to the UK economy.  This aims to improve living standards and economic growth by increasing productivity and driving growth across the whole country.  This consultation will remain open until mid-April.

The opportunity

This consultation starts a conversation about skills, research, infrastructure and other things needed to drive long-term productivity growth.  With this in mind, you can view the green paper here: Building our Industrial Strategy.

This green paper sets out the Government’s vision for a modern industrial strategy and some early actions already committed to.  This is an open, two-way conversation about things we need to get right to drive long-term productivity growth.  Examples of these include, but are not limited to, skills, research and infrastructure.

Why consult?

The green paper sets out how the Government proposes to build its industrial strategy.  It is not intended to be the last word, but rather to start a consultation.

Anyone with an interest is invited to respond.  Furthermore comments are welcomed as part of a broad discussion on the approach and ideas set out.  This is vitally important in order to make the industrial strategy effective in delivering an economy that works for everyone.

How To Respond

You can respond via the online survey.  Alternatively, you can respond by email or via the following postal address: Industrial Strategy Team,  Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, 1 Victoria Street, London SW1H 0ET.

Local Events

Before the East Midlands Chamber compiles its own written submission to the Government on this subject, it is seeking views from local businesses.  In order to achieve this, two events have been arranged.  These will seek to establish the area’s prime assets and priorities for long-term economic vitality, post-Brexit.   These FREE events will take place in Derby on 17 March and in Nottingham on 29 March.
