Job fairs to help local people find work

September 5, 2013 4:47 pm

Jobseekers in Ashfield and Mansfield will be able to find out about job vacancies and training opportunities at jobs fairs later this month.

Ashfield and Mansfield District Councils, Vision West Nottinghamshire College and Jobcentre Plus are working together to put on two jobs fairs that aim to raise the awareness of the different opportunities in the area and help people understand more about the local job market.

Jobseekers will be able to find out about new career pathways, volunteering, job vacancies, apprenticeships opportunities, self-employment and career advice support.  The Ashfield jobs fair takes place on Thursday 19 September, 10am to 3pm at Festival Hall Leisure Centre, Kirkby-in-Ashfield. The Mansfield jobs fair will be held at Mansfield Civic Centre, Chesterfield Road South, Mansfield on Thursday 26 September from 11am to 4pm.

A variety of local employers, training providers, recruitment agencies and support organisations will be attending, providing a range of work and training vacancies as well as career guidance and support to help people make the right decisions about their future. The organisations will cover a range of areas including care, retail, logistics, customer service and many more.

The fairs will draw a close to the Getting Ashfield and Mansfield Working campaign. Over an eight-week period this campaign has raised awareness of the support available to help people across the two Districts move into work or training. Each week there has been a different focus providing support and information on areas such as volunteering, apprenticeships and starting a business. Even though the campaign will be finishing, all the information about how local organisations can help jobseekers.

Cllr Kate Allsop, Portfolio Holder for Economic Regeneration at Mansfield District Council said: “Looking for work in this competitive job market is becoming increasingly difficult and these job fairs aim to give local people the best possible chance to find out about job and training opportunities. I’d strongly encourage people to come along and take advantage of the support available from local employers and organisations.”

Cllr Warren Nuttall, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Community Welfare and Corporate Service at Ashfield District Council said: “The jobs fairs will provide local people looking for work, training and volunteering openings with a chance to find out what help and support is on offer and to meet local business with opportunities all available in one place. I would urge residents to come along and find out more about how we can help them to consider a new work or training pathway”.
