The Largest Business Networking Group in Mansfield Meets Again

Mansfield 2020 speech

Over 130 local leading business people joined together on Thursday 30 January at Mansfield 2020’s breakfast meeting. Organisations from all over Nottinghamshire came together from a mixture of sectors, businesses stages and sizes; all had one goal in mind: Business Development and Business Community.

Award-winning Chairman, Irvin Robinson, asked if anyone had made any business resolutions and then stated the message that Mansfield 2020 will continue to drive throughout 2014: Mansfield 2020 are here to listen and help the local business community.

Shacklock Solicitors & Investment Advisors were not only this month’s sponsor but they also delivered an informative and practical presentation. Robert Pearson gave great advice on how to conduct yourself if you find yourself in court and outlined important do’s and don’t ’s that you should abide by. Any organisation can find themselves dealing with an employment tribunal and this can create negative media attention. Your conduct and representation can control and protect your reputation so it’s important that you use someone you can trust.

Stewart Rickersey of SMB Consultancy then delivered an intriguing presentation entitled ‘All to Be Revealed’. Stewart is a founder member of 2010 (as 2020 was previously known) and has been involved with local business community projects for several years; and this is what he revealed:

  • Independent Ashfield & Mansfield – Launching a new free monthly tabloid newspaper designed to be the ‘good news local paper’. The newspaper will have a community focus and will be distributed to 10,000 homes around Mansfield and surrounding areas.
  • Sherwood TV – The on-demand internet TV channel will provide local news programming and feature programmes across the area. To be launched in November with the involvement of students from Vision West Nottinghamshire College.
  • Sherwood News Agency – providing PR and photography support and a guarantee to run the story in the new Independent and broadcast coverage on Sherwood TV.

January’s technical briefing on IT security was delivered by Jon Craven from Xuper IT Support with one clear theme: online security. We live in a world where phones, tablets, laptops and remote working are now the norm. As a result, it is now more important than ever to protect your organisation and ensure you abide by legislation. His advice included ensuring anti-virus and firewalls are kept up-to-date and maintaining back-up processes to protect your organisation.

Mansfield 2020 hosted a free workshop directly after the breakfast meeting entitled ‘How to enter for a business award’. The workshop provided the opportunity to demonstrate just how easy it is to put your organisation forward for a business award that will guarantee free PR for 2014 and beyond. The deadline for award applications  is 24 February 2014.  Visit the dedicated website for further information.

Within the breakfast meeting, Mansfield 2020 welcomed 3 students from local schools and 4 new Career Champions to the group: Wellow House School, Hopkins Solicitors, Mansfield Manor and Robert Woodhead. They have all taken the pledge to provide employability and career skills to local young people. If your organisation would like to be a Career Champion contact Berni Dickinson at:
