More than 70 women attended the launch of an exciting new programme offering free support to women who want to explore the possibility of working for themselves or develop a new business idea.

Women in Enterprise launch event

The Women Who Do project launch on Friday 14 June at the Summit Centre in Kirkby-in-Ashfield featured local inspirational speakers Amanda Waring, of Mama Jewels, and Lian Britchford, of Encompass Print Solutions. They spoke about their success in business as well as potential pitfalls to avoid when getting a business idea off the ground. They also gave an insight into how their businesses are run on a daily basis and the importance of having a work/life balance.

Delegates were given a full insight into the wide range of support on offer including confidence building workshops, one-to-one mentoring support, personalised development planning and networking events.

Mike Robinson, Head of Regeneration, Leisure and Marketing at Mansfield District Council, said: “This free programme provides women who have a business idea they want to develop with the support needed to explore new avenues.  Although the launch event has already taken place, it is not too late to get involved – this could be the first step to starting a successful new business.”

Ashfield District Council Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Cllr Warren Nuttall added: “It gives me great pleasure to be able to work in partnership to bring such wonderful opportunities to the women of Ashfield and Mansfield. The event’s fantastic turnout proved that there is a great need for this kind of initiative and I look forward to future events.”

The Women Who Do project is part of the Enterprise Academy for Women, which is supported by the European Regional Development Fund in conjunction with Ashfield & Mansfield District councils.  Any enterprising women across Ashfield and Mansfield that want to be inspired, motivated, creative, challenged and enabled, should consider joining other like-minded women on an aspiring journey.
