Almost a quarter of a million people live in Ashfield and Mansfield, the 5th largest urban area in the East Midlands, which is why the area is already recognised by many as a small city.

Businesses here enjoy a valuable immediate market with great access to customers, but their central location also means that the majority of the country can be accessed within a 3 hour drive.  This natural advantage has been further improved by recent road and communication improvements:

  • The Mansfield Ashfield Regeneration Route (MARR) has improved east-west communications within the district and with the A1 and M1 beyond.
  • The successful development and extension of a commercial airport just across the border into Yorkshire has further improved the area’s international linkages and now Robin Hood Airport provides a real alternative to East Midlands Airport, both of which are easily accessible in just over half an hour.

For an area of our size we benefit from very little traffic congestion and, unlike our neighbours in Nottingham, we do not have a Workplace Parking Levy.  For more about our excellent transport links, see our location page

Businesses in Ashfield and Mansfield also benefit from a ready supply of good quality, affordable business premises and a skilled and adaptable local workforce. Reasonable rates of pay and value for money housing means that not only do our companies benefit but so do their employees who are able to access an outstanding quality of life, with both Sherwood Forest and The Peak District right on our doorstep.

We also recognise that business connections are really important and the area already benefits from strong business networks and support organisations.  We are looking to work with local businesses to further improve these connections through an AMbassadors, business events .  To find out more about the benefits of doing business here from our local businesses see our case studies .
