Invest Ashfield & Mansfield - The area for growth

There are many opportunities out there for businesses to learn and improve.  We try and feature as many of these events as possible on our online events calendar.  This basically provides you with a helpful snapshot of events in and around Ashfield and Mansfield.  Indeed, many of these are FREE.  So all it takes is a little of your time.  But think about what you could gain: new skills, improved productivity and maybe even some new contacts.

It’s a bit like buses

Sometimes it seems that there’s not much going on.  At other times it seems that everything comes at once.  October is looking a bit like that: waiting for the bus and then two come along at once.  Wednesday 3 October promises to be a case in point as there’s two really useful, and FREE, events both taking place in Mansfield.

Making the most of Microsoft Office 365

If you use Microsoft Office 365 or you are thinking about transitioning to it, then this event is for you.  Run by experts from the Digital Growth Programme, this morning breakfast seminar will show how you can get the best out of it.  In other words, showing you all the functionality and productivity advantages it offers.  Running from 8am to 11:30 at Forever Green on Ransomwood, this event is completely FREE.  What’s more, it even includes a free breakfast and refreshments.  Not only that, but our Invest team will be on-hand to explain the support that we can offer to local businesses.  In addition, you’ll also find out more about what the Digital Growth Programme can offer.  Find out more and register.

SME & the supply chain conference

Predictably on the same day, albeit a little later, this event is organised jointly by Nottingham Trent University and Mansfield & Ashfield 2020.  In short, this conference offers a unique insight into bidding, tendering, winning and fulfilling contracts within both the public and private sector.

There are some great opportunities.  You may not realise it but UK government has billions to spend with the private sector through public procurement contracts.  In 2015/16 the government spent £5.6 billion directly with small businesses.  When sub-contracts to small businesses from larger suppliers are also taken into account, the total spend rises to £12.2 billion.  Wouldn’t you like a bit of that?

After all, securing public and private sector contracts is a great way for small businesses to bring in a steady income stream that can really help your business to grow.  The conference will explore how smaller businesses can get in the supply chain.  And, at the same time, creating and developing positive and lasting relationships that work in the best interests of both customer and supplier.  Find out more and register.

How can we help?

We try and send one of our Invest team to as many of these events as possible so that we can speak to local businesses.  And don’t forget, you can contact us at any time to find out more.  We also want to publicise as many local business events as possible.  But if you come across one that’s not on our online events calendar, let us know.  Don’t forget that we are constantly adding new events so it is a bit of a moving feast.

In particular, we would like to draw your attention to The Big House events.  In short, this is a funded programme for creative & digital businesses.  So if your business fits into that category, it’s definitely worth a look.
