The first official warm welcome from ‘Midlands Business Club of the Year 2014’ was a resounding success. Yet again demonstrating the power of the local Mansfield business community, working together to inter-trade, support young people and drive the local economy forward.

The group welcomed students from the local schools to the event; this meeting gives young people the experience of networking and the opportunity to see what the Ashfield & Mansfield business community can offer.

More and more organisations are taking the pledge to become a Career Champion, a scheme that sees local businesses offer support and employability skills to younger workers and support local young people, and this month the group welcomed a number of new Career Champions: GI Group, Assured Money Solutions, Teachers UK, Forrest Williams, Cocoa Cashmere, CCM Supplies, Crawford Strategic Solutions, The Health Insurance Group, Untapped Resource and Stopford Associates.  All firms  have committed to deliver at least one activity this academy year to provide young people with employability skills. You can find more information on Career Champions here.

In his presentation Natwest Area Director, Ken Lawson, announced figures in this first quarter, clearly demonstrating increasing business confidence. Ken is a real advocate of the importance and value of local business support and gave an example of how such support helped a local start-up business produce a business plan and access grant funding, now expanding from one to three shops in our area.  He also formally launched the Entrepreneur weekend which gave the chance to local people interested in setting up their own business to speak with a number of business support organisations in order to obtain vital support.
