Consultation by Mansfield District Council is under way on a number of technical documents that support the Local Plan.

The documents that are being reviewed are:

  • Interim Sustainability Appraisal. This will look at the impact of the Plan on social, environmental and economic issues in order to ensure that it is as sustainable as possible.
  • Habitats Regulations Assessment. This is to make sure the plan has no adverse impact on important nature conservation sites that are protected at a European level.
  • Equality Impact Assessment. This ensures that the Plan treats all groups of people fairly.

The six-week consultation period started on Wednesday 3 August when the council began to ask stakeholders and people who live and work in Mansfield to give their opinion and feedback on these documents.

The documents under consultation each assess various aspects of the Mansfield District Local Plan Consultation Draft, ensuring that any negative impacts are addressed.

The draft plan, which was released earlier this year, contains a vision and development strategy that will influence the distribution and allocation of residential, retail and business developments over the next 17 years. The strategy will determine policies for planning applications and decision making.

Once consultation has concluded, the new Local Plan will create a new blueprint for how the district will develop and tackle issues such as population increase and changes in demography, including an increasingly aged population.

Councillor Dave Saunders, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, said: “We consulted on the draft plan earlier this year, however new comments will also be accepted during this consultation period. All comments made previously are being considered so do not need to be repeated.”

The documents can be viewed at the Civic Centre and all libraries within the district, as well as on the council’s website.

People can add comments to the plan by submitting them online, by email or in writing to: Planning Policy Team, Mansfield District Council, Civic Centre, Chesterfield Road South, Mansfield, NG19 7BH by 14 September 2016.
