Manufacturing

Ashfield and Mansfield provide a perfect example of the thriving, but little known, ‘hinterland’ manufacturing locations.  Our area’s engineering roots are deep, originally associated with the coal mining and textile sectors and today is reflected in a manufacturing workforce that’s almost 50% larger than the UK average.

We are also home to some of the biggest ‘OEM’ names in transport equipment manufacturing including Rolls Royce, which makes aerospace components in the area, and Bombardier, whose BTROS Electronics subsidiary designs and manufactures high-tech Passenger Information Systems for the rail sector.
