The Business Shaper

Dezigne Boutique Department Store opened their doors for business just before Christmas and have started the New Year with great plans for helping artists; designers and creatives to build a successful business. Not only are they offering space to display and sell locally produced arts, crafts and homewares on the ground floor of their shop, they have created a workshop/café bar space upstairs to provide business support, networking and meeting space to all local creative entrepreneurs.

An exciting development in their plans is the launch of “The Business Shaper” Masterclass Programme.  This is a series of short, intense, practical and hands on sessions designed to equip artists, designers and creative with the skills necessary to take their business forward.  Further detail on these and many other business events can be found on our events page.

Each session will run from 1pm until 4pm on a Thursday (starting 6th February) and will look at helping to develop very specific skills ranging from writing product descriptions that will sell your work online through to pricing your work for profit and selling confidently face to face. Whether you dream of building a global design brand or just want to make a living for yourself from your work, you will be able to take something positive from these sessions.

Self-confidence and emotional wellbeing is woven into all of the sessions, which will be relaxed and informal and always relate specifically to participants work. Previous participants have left sessions feeling energized and motivated and much more positive about their ability to succeed.

The sessions will be delivered by Suzy Rai, an experienced and successful business coach, marketing consultant and creative entrepreneur. She has lived and worked in Nottingham all of her life and has a passion for all things art and design. She will bring, energy, enthusiasm and nearly 20 years experience in business start-up, development and marketing practice and will share all of her learning and experience in these fields.

Suzy explained: “Working with artists and designers, through The Business Shaper, combines all of my passions and interests in one dream job.  I started my own creative business about two years ago, designing and making hand-knitted accessories and with nearly 20 years’ experience in Business Support, I have always loved nurturing talent, providing guidance and building the skills in others that will help them to progress.   As my own small business begins to grow shoots, I can share my learning and experience and offer helpful advice.  Building a business from scratch takes hard work, focus, a deep passion and belief in what you do and great strength to keep going when things are tough. Having someone to listen, encourage and be supportive is so important in helping to maintain momentum.”

These workshops will be the start of something exciting for Dezigne: a hub and a network of people with a passion for art and craft and a desire to make a living from their talent and creativity.  For those successfully completing this Programme, there will be an opportunity to serve an internship with Dezigne and gain valuable experience and an insight into the demands of running an enterprise. This is a fantastic opportunity to test your own ideas in a safe and supportive environment before taking the plunge to set up your own business.

Anyone interested in attending one or all of the workshops can contact Suzy directly on 07772 202766 or email :  Or for more information visit The Business Shaper’s Facebook Page.  If you are interested in having your work sold in the Dezigne shop, please visit their website for more information.
