Ashfield & Mansfield swimming stars Ollie Hynd and Charlotte Henshaw have delivered another stunning performance at the IPC World Swimming Championships in Montreal, after winning a total of four medals.

Ollie took Gold in the 200m Individual Medley (SM8), creating a new European record, and Bronze in the 100m Backstroke (S8), breaking the British record. He also took gold in the 400m Freestyle (S8), whilst Charlotte secured Bronze in the 100m Breaststroke (SB6).  Ollie’s brother Sam also came second in the 400m Freestyle (S8).

For Ollie, his success in Montreal marks the end of an amazing twelve months, during which he became the most successful male Great Britain swimmer at the London 2012 Paralympic Games and was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list.

Mansfield District Council’s Executive Mayor, Tony Egginton said: “Once again, Ollie, Charlotte and Sam have achieved at the highest level. We are so proud of these young athletes, who have shown incredible dedication and commitment to their sport. They are inspirational role models for the people of Mansfield and we would like to congratulate them on their outstanding success in Montreal.”

Both Ollie and Charlotte train with the Mansfield Nova Squad, which is supported by Mansfield District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council. Sam Hynd originally trained with the squad, but moved to Swansea University in 2009.

Ollie and Charlotte are coached by Mansfield District Council’s Swimming Development Officer, Glenn Smith, who has an excellent track record of coaching swimmers to Olympic and Paralympic glory. They also receive funding from Nottinghamshire County Council’s Shining Stars Fund.

Councillor John Knight, Chairman of the Culture Committee at Nottinghamshire County Council said: “The Hynd brothers and Charlotte were truly inspirational during London 2012 and they have again produced fantastic, medal-winning performances at the World Championships. We are extremely proud of them.”
