The Mayor of Mansfield Tony Egginton presented the pair with certificates in honour of their stunning performances at the IPC World Swimming Championships in Montreal, Canada, in August, where they won a total of four medals.

Ollie took Gold in the 200m Individual Medley (SM8), creating a new European record, and Bronze in the 100m Backstroke (S8), breaking the British record. He also took gold in the 400m Freestyle (S8), while Charlotte secured Bronze in the 100m Breaststroke (SB6), which was her sixth major championship medal since 2009.

Mansfield District Council’s Executive Mayor, Tony Egginton said: “Both Ollie and Charlotte had a fantastic year in 2012 and have continued to achieve at the highest level in 2013. They are great ambassadors for sport and an inspiration to many. On behalf of the Council, I would like to recognise their outstanding success in Montreal and wish them all the very best for continued success in the future.”

Both Ollie and Charlotte train with the Mansfield Nova Squad, which is supported by Mansfield District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council. Ollie’s brother Sam Hynd originally trained with the squad, but moved to Swansea University in 2009.

Ollie and Charlotte are coached by Mansfield District Council’s Swimming Development Officer, Glenn Smith, who has an excellent track record of coaching swimmers to Olympic and Paralympic glory. They also receive funding from Nottinghamshire County Council’s Shining Stars Fund.
