TIS secures prized win at Security and Fire awards

Independent fire, security and communication specialists TIS won the prestigious ‘Combined Security & Fire Solution of the Year’ accolade at the Security & Fire Excellence Awards 2016.

Competition for the award was hard fought, with over eight companies vying for the top prize.

Now in their 18th year, the Security & Fire Excellence Awards have consistently broken new ground in highlighting the very best people, projects and processes that the security and fire sectors have to offer.

They recognise the achievements of the most innovative, reliable and cost-effective products, services and solutions spanning a wide range of fields across fire and security and have become an annual highlight for the industry.

The category required TIS to showcase its most innovative and exciting integrated fire and security project.

The intricate detail and complex technological aspect of the Bournville Gardens Retirement Village project seamlessly met the requirements, along with the integration of ‘Smart Building Converged Infrastructure’ demonstrated for the cutting-edge development.

The winning entry illustrated how TIS has been instrumental in a technological revolution within the social care sector.

Working closely with existing clients it developed its branded ‘Smart Building Converged Infrastructure’ programme, which provides a security, fire and communications infrastructure that is cost effective and designed to future-proof the installation.

Opened in 2015, Bournville Gardens Retirement Village is part of the £60m College Green development that provides 212 spacious homes set in a stunning complex, an 80-bed care home, 16 cottage-style homes for the elderly and a health and wellbeing centre.

The facilities are at the heart of this state-of-the-art, sustainable community that benefits over 300 older people, encouraging social and active participation among all age groups in the neighbourhood.

Several years of design work, which included demonstrations, technical submissions, consultations and value engineering resulted in the development and eventual installation of TIS’ dual fibre infrastructure.

Following the win, Managing Director of Combined Services James Twigg said: “To have received national recognition at such renowned awards for our innovation, technical and design ability and also our professional installation is overwhelming for the whole team. They all work tirelessly to create solutions that exceed our clients’ expectations and this accolade is testament to them.”

He added that the award highlighted “the incredible pool of talent that TIS has” and shows “why we continue to grow in what is a very competitive market sector”.

The awards were presented at a black-tie ball, hosted by comedian Jimmy Carr, at the London Hilton Park Lane.
